Flavored Dough

Flavored Dough

Materials:

1/2 cup salt

2 cups water

Saucepan

Kool-Aid Mix

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

2 cups sifted flour

2 tablespoons alum

Description:

Mix the salt and water in a saucepan and boil the mixture until the salt dissolves. Remove the mixture from heat and add Kool-aid Mix. Add the oil, flour, and alum. Knead until smooth.

Salt Paint

Materials:

Small jars

1 cup Epsom Salt

1/2 cup water

Bowl

Food coloring or liquid tempera paint

Description:

Combine the salts and water in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the containers. Add food coloring or tempera paint to each jar. Select different colors for each jar and mix well.

Corn Syrup Paint

Activity:

Corn Syrup Paint

Materials:

Small jars

4 tablespoons corn syrup

1 1/2 teaspoons liquid dish soap

Liquid tempera paint

Food coloring

 

Description:

Mix the corn syrup and dish soap in the container. Add enough liquid tempera paint or food coloring to color the paint. Use a different jar for each color.

Milk Paint

Materials:

2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk

Small bowl

Warm water

Food coloring

 

Description:

Measure the dry milk into a bowl. Add enough warm water to make a thick paste. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir the mixture until it’s smooth. Cover the paint and refrigerate.

Egg Yolk Paint

Egg Yolk Paint

Materials:

Small jars

1 egg yolk per jar

1/4 teaspoon water per jar

Food coloring

Description:

In each jar, mix 1 egg yolk with 1/4 teaspoon of water and drops of food coloring. Use a paintbrush to apply paint to freshly baked cookies. Place cookies back in the oven until paint become hard.

Cornstarch Paint

Cornstarch Paint

Materials:

1/2 cup cornstarch

Saucepan

1/2 cup water

4 cups boiling water

Small jars

1 teaspoon of powdered tempera paint per jar or/ 1 tablespoon liquid tempera paint per jar

Packets of Koolaid

Description:

Measure the cornstarch into the saucepan. Add cold water and stir the mixture to make a smooth paste. Stir in boiling water. Place the saucepan over medium-low heat and stir in the paste until it’s boiling. Boil the paste for 1 minute, then remove it from the heat and let it cool. Spoon some of the paste into each jar. Stir in paint to desired color. Cover the jars and put them into the fridge.

Flour Paint

Activity:

Flour Paint

Materials:

1/4 cup flour

Saucepan

1 cup water

Small jars

3 tablespoons of powdered tempera paint per jar

2 tablespoons water per container

1/2 teaspoon liquid starch or liquid laundry detergent per container

Description:

Measure flour and place in pan. Add 1 cup of water while stirring the mixture until smooth paste is achieved. Heat paste in oven on low for 10 minutes and stir until it begins to thicken. Let the mixture cool. Measure 1/4 cup of paste into each container. Add 3 tablespoons of powdered tempera paint and 2 tablespoons of water to each jar. Add starch or laundry detergent to change finish. Cover jars for storage.
